BSR is located close to the gorilla parks in Rwanda and Uganda. It is located about 430kms from Kampala and about 127km from Kigali in Rwanda. From Kampala, the interesting drive through lush countryside takes about 6 hours. From Kigali in Rwanda, it takes less than 2 hours.
Accommodation is in form of cottages 12 bed occupancy and a main hotel complex with 92 bed occupancy and 2 luxury suites. All rooms are fully furnished and self contained. BSR can comfortably accommodate more than 100 people on sharing basis.
Our cuisine is mostly African. We use organically grown fresh vegetables and fruits from the village. Our specialty is Cray fish from Lake Bunyonyi; however the chef can prepare most international dishes. Dinner is served at a campfire by the lake side. A local harpist is normally available to entertain you with local Rukiga ballads.
A walk to the hill top above BSR will take you to our huge outdoor conference hall. The scenery here is breathtaking. You will get a bird’s eye view of the lake on a backdrop of the Muhavura volcanoes in the background. The terraced hills, the homesteads and the people as they work in their gardens are scenes you will enjoy at this vantage point. The hall has a bar, pool table, music and television. It is an ideal place for social gatherings, parties and recreation.
BSR is an ideal place for family get together gatherings, corporate retreats, team building and other group meetings. It takes you from the hassle and bustles of the city and yet gives you the comfort and convenience of a modern accommodation facility.
About Lake Bunyonyi
The word Bunyonyi means a place of little birds. Indeed at Lake Bunyonyi you can enjoy at least 200 bird species. You will wake up to bird song. For the bird lovers, we organize an early morning boat trip to Nyombi, a swampy place across the lake that is home to many bird species.
Lake Bunyonyi is a body of water 9km west from Kabale Town, in southwestern Uganda. It is 25 km long and 7 km wide, covering an area of 61 sq km. The lake's altitude is 1,950 m, and it is surrounded by intensely cultivated terraced hills. The horizon is graced by the volcanoes that lie astride the border between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. They are Muhavura (4,127 m) and Sabinyo (3,634 m).
Lake Bunyonyi is one of the young lakes created less than 10,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption that blocked a river exit. It is the second deepest Lake in Africa. It has over 29 islands and the water is bilharzia free making it favorable for swimming. Thermal shock is a real danger as the waters can be chilly especially in July. Take care to cool your body by splashing yourself with water before plunging in the lake.
